Can a foreigner open a bank account in Kazakhstan?
Yes. Kazakh banks open accounts for foreigners, including people who are not residents. Each bank has its own rules, so we check which one fits your situation.
Do I need an IIN to open a bank account?
Yes. The IIN is your individual identification number, and banks ask for it to open an account. For non-residents it is issued once and does not expire.
Can I get an IIN before I arrive?
A pilot that issued IINs through embassies abroad ended at the end of 2025, so most people now get theirs in Kazakhstan. We tell you the current way for your case.
Which documents will I need?
Usually your passport and IIN, and sometimes proof of address or a migration card. Banks differ, so we confirm the exact list before you go.
